The Península is located in the Baía de Camamu and gathers all the northeast beauties in one place only. The landscape is covered by huge palm trees, beaches, rivers, and natural bright green waters. A small village of fishermen, Bahia's Maraú is simple and beautiful. The walks through the Atlantic Forest, followed by the marmosets, take the tourist to waterfalls and several beaches, such as Barra Grande (the most famous one of that place), Saquaíra, Cassangue (chosen as one of the best of Brazil), Conchas and many others. It also has the charm of the islands Pedra Furada, Sapinho and Goió, besides Campinho. From the top of Mirante do Morro de Taipú belvedere, the tourist can appreciate the extensive sight of the north and south beaches up to the town of Itacaré. Another incredible tour is the hill Morro Bela Vista, the best observation sight of Península de Maraú. And finally, Taipú de Fora Beach, acknowledged as the greatest scenery among the local beauties. Its landscape is completed with palm trees, the Atlantic Forest and white sands split by native streams that run to the sea.

Marau

The Península was recently discovered by Bahia's people itself and tourists, but the former inhabitants tell that the small town was once visited by the writer and aviator Antoine de Saint-Exupery, the author of "The Little Prince", who would have stayed in the village enough time to maintain a residence there.

Anyway, the importance of the city in the past centuries is revealed today in the old style architecture. From the high city's belvedere, it is possible to have a beautiful sight of Maraú's estuary and the low city. It is also possible to observe the large area of the street market and the watercraft at the berth. Fishing is an important income source for the city. In the agriculture sector, rubber trees, dendê [(Elaeis guineensis) brought in the end of the 19^th century], clove, pupunha (peach palm), cocoa, guarana and black pepper are grown. A street market enlivens the city on Saturdays.
Also, Barra Grande is located in Península de Maraú, a small village that has one of the most beautiful beaches in the country, filled with attractions and natural pools that are great for diving and swimming. Moreover, most of the inns and restaurants of the region are in Barra Grande.
